(Character development, perma U/C) {indicates location of writing and is not in journal}
- Day 1 {Zendikar}
- Evening
I awoke at what was approximately noon in a location completely unknown to me. This area has a cliff along a vast body of water, a thick jungle off in the distance and more mana than I have felt from almost anywhere on Ravnica. Only one building was within sight but it is quite some distance away. Temperatures and humidity are both high, but not unreasonable for a tropical area. The afternoon was spent making progress towards the building and assessing my situation. My lack of water means that I need to reach a source of it soon then food will become a concern. Luckily, I have access to enough mana to defend myself if necessary. I will continue to travel over the night after I finish writing this. I hope to be at the building before dawn.
- Day 2
- Evening
As I drew closer I discovered that the one building was a tower surrounded by many smaller buildings and alongside the water is a huge gate that I can only speculate at the purpose of. I reached the buildings late last night and was amazed to find a group of mostly merfolk running the lighthouse as well as a group of mixed races getting ready for a day of commerce. Though suspicious, they provided me a place to stay, water, and food.
Interestingly, language was not the barrier I was expecting it to be. The locals tell me that I am at the Sea Gate of Halimar and seem confused that I do not know where I am. They are also wary of my strange attire which clashes with the sedate and practical clothing of the inhabitants. Quick observations tell me that these merfolk have adapted to be terrestrial, they are not trusting, and that this area is more dangerous than I had originally thought.
Questions about Ravnica yield only confused questions and serve to confirm that I have traveled a much greater time span that I had realized. Either this is so far back in history that the land has not yet been tamed or so far in the future that history itself has forgotten the once great city of my home. In either case I need to rest before I attempt to recreate what occurred in my lab.
- Day 3
- Mid-Morning
I am writing this in the morning because I have found the most incredible thing! A gigantic library dedicated to the history and lore of the area. While I was eyed with suspicion when I asked to look, they did not turn me away. The merfolk scholars actually asked for my help! They said that if I come across any references to “the cataclysm” or “the ancient destroyers” that I was to bring this to their immediate attention. This makes me think that I have found the far future of Ravnica in which some terrible event destroyed my now ancient home. My work to find this event, its cause, and a way to stop it now begin!
- Evening
My day did not produce much in terms of concrete evidence. There were minor references to a terrible evil but nothing that said what that evil was. Talking to the scholars didn’t prove much more insightful. Everything is a theory and there are no real facts on the matter. I will continue to study until I either find what I want or there is nothing left to read. Of note, the scholars have taken me in and I have moved into a complex along the library. I think they want to keep an eye on me, but I won’t complain.
- Day 4 (New journal…)
- Evening
Last journal has gone missing; Zasini says there were a number of mischievous pixies about last night and that several items went missing. I hate that I lost the journal but there isn’t much to be done. I’ll just make sure to keep this journal hidden while I sleep. I think a rune on the window and door would also be a good precaution, if I can remember how to cast an intruder alarm that is…
- Day 7
- Evening
No exciting news for several days. I did find one tidbit that was troubling. These “eldrazi” that are the bane of existence in this time are not new. While I cannot confirm that Ravnica was destroyed by these beings, but I think the two may be related. In other news, Zasini and I have become somewhat close. I explained my time travel to him and he seems genuinely interested in learning more. I think a collective collaboration with him will prove very useful.
- Day 9
- Evening
Zasini has filled in some of the historical gaps that have plagued my research and my history notes are now up to date. I have finished two of the blank books that I managed to have on me at my time of travel and I will need more soon. The paper that the merfolk scholars have provided is not of the best quality and being loose-leaf is a major problem. I plan to attempt to travel home soon to acquire more.
- post-midnight
Intruder alarm worked! I caught Lasiva breaking into my room! While chasing her down I was stopped by Zasini who explained everything. They had stolen my last journal to learn more about me and to make sure I wasn’t working for evil forces. The nerve! He did give my old journal back and apologized profusely. Normally I would just write this kind of entry in the morning but I am so livid as to make sleep nigh impossible.
- Day 10
- Morning
I need to go home at this point... I need more paper, I miss the bustle of the city and having a real lab and I'm stressed and now I'm rambling and writing sentences thatmakenosenseandmywiritngisgettingworseandIneedout!
I have to tell Zasini my plans... hopefully I will be able to make it back soon.
