Name: Borthosicus (Grand Artificer)
Player:Chris
Quote Color:67047c
Skimming the Surface
Age: 37
Race: Human, Auriok
Gender:Male
Appearance: Borthosicus is short for an Auriok, standing at a lofty 5 feet tall. He wears little in the way of clothes, a simple white vest and a midsized loincloth, held up by an ornate golden belt. His exposed flesh is a patchwork of tanned skin and living gold. Gold spirals around his arms and covers the backs of his hands, creating natural gauntlets. A thick vein of gold stretches from his navel to his right shoulder, jutting out as small spikes. His thighs are also covered in thick veins that taper out near his kneecaps. Borthosicus's face somewhat square, with dark brown eyes, and short white hair. He's scrawnier than his Auriok brethren as well.
Delving Secrets:[/i]
Home Plane: Mirrodin
Mana Alignment: White
Specialization: Borthosicus is a master Artificer, and a native Mirran, as such, he's got an affinity for artifacts, he primarily summons golems, Myrs, and leonin, as well as utilizing Izzet Chemistry. He doesn't enjoy physical combat himself, and therefore does his best to never engage, but he always has a short sword on him just in case.
Personality: Borthosicus is subject to a superiority complex due to his smaller stature compared to the auriok men in his tribe. He often scoffs at others for not being as intelligent as himself or for using 'lesser' magics powered by green or red mana. He views his artifice as being second to none and his solution to most problems is to throw more of his machines at it. Borthosicus is a scholar at heart, and cares little about the events transpiring around him, his only interest is to learn more about artifice and to further his craft. Despite his intellectual stigma, he is on good terms with several green and red mages and while he would never admit it, he appreciates and relies on their power when a situation goes south.
Bio: Borthosicus was born into an Auriok tribe several years before the death of Memnarch. His childhood was very typical of Auriok boys, his father, a weaponsmith, started teaching him the family trade as soon as he could walk. He showed considerable skill and a thirst for knowledge that made his father proud. Despite his success in the workshop, the other children in his tribe ostracized him due to his scrawny physique, and he would often sneak away to the nearest Leonin settlement and play with the cubs there.
When Memnarch came seeking Borthosicus, along with several others in his tribe joined the Leonin to fight against the demented golem's armies of nim and Vedalkin. He learned very quickly that fighting on the front lines was not his forte, and after several skirmishes, managed to find himself a post assisting a golemancer salvage and repurpose Memnarch's own machines against him. For the first time in his life, Borthosicus felt awed. He had never seen such deft and scrupulous magic before. Forging a blade was basically banging two rocks together compared to creating or reanimating a golem, and he needed to learn more. For the next several years, he trained under this golemancer in order to learn his craft and mastered it.
Years later, Phyrexia invaded. Borthosicus once again joined the Leonin to fight. The enemy was like nothing he had ever encountered before. They decimated the company of Leonin he was creating golems and armor for, and either brutally murdered them or took them prisoner. Borthosicus and five others were taken prisoner. His allies were exposed, one by one, to the Glistening Oil which transformed them into hideous mockeries of life, entirely artifice and oozing with the same disgusting substance used to corrupt them. Borthosicus was about to be compleated when his spark ignited, flinging him from Mirrodin into the streets of Ravnica. He now wanders the multiverse, seeking knowledge of not only artifice, but of something to expel the plague that has almost completely overtaken his home.
